rusting!!!
ive noticed that my 98 civic ex has parts(steering column, bracets under the dash, etc) rusting on it what might be the problem. i baught it from a dealer and the carfax has not report of flooding
my rear quarter panel was rusting too.......luckily i got into a fender bender and the other dude paid to get it fixed..........sometimes im pretty sure hondas are unfortunalty known for wheel well rust thou rite?
Most likely cause would be moisture (humidity) or disimilar metals. Once in it is very extremely hard to remove. It is likely surface rust but if it is bothersome the parts can be replaced.
rusting around the rear wheel wells is a 5th gen trademark. mine has 4 spots, 2 on each side, 1 on the bottom and 1 at the top of the wheel well. This is due to honda using low grade recycled metals. Also, my car came from eastern canada. during the winter, they use excessive amounts of salt on the road to reduce freezing temperature. This salt + recycled metal = ew. My plan is to paint my entire car, the guys at the body shop said it would be much cheaper to get the entire rear panel replaced when it gets painted. So that's my plan to remove, also you can get it cut out and refinished.
thats what happend to me.......it was fixed but they used something other than bondo.......someone rear ended me and it just so happend the rear qrtr panel suffered damage too........heh heh heh idk how that happend but ill give a shout out to allstate for fixin my rust....
You could probably use steel wool to get the rust off of any chrome, but as far as stopping it, once rust is on metel, it's like cancer......you have to cut the rusted metal piece out in order to stop it. WD40 would slow it down a lot, and would also probably smell quite a bit inside your car.
