if your gonna hot glue it dont use the zip ties.....

they will just hold the grills out alittle more and it wont look flush

just scratch the back of the bumper up with some 80 grit or ruffer. just so the glue will have something to hold onto beter..
tho personaly i would us some epoxy instead of the hot glue... just cause epoxy will hold alot harder! so less flexing.... the hot glue MIGHT get forced loose after so many washes...

but i guess either way you can always just try the other if the hot glue doesnt hold.......

Should I paint the mesh or should I leave it the color it is?

i like the normal color it is. Maybe a coat of silver spray paint might look good. I dont really like red, yellow, etc. mesh. Just kind of looks like a desperate attempt to catch somebodies eye.

ive always used a jigsaw with a fine steel cuting blade. just cut slow and it should go preaty smooth.

i don't suggest hot glue i went down that path the best way i have been told is get some fiberglass resin and big paper clips and scuff the back of the kit first..
