Default Shift boot removal - 2003 Civic Si

While going through some old stuff, I ran across the walnut shift **** that had come with my '79 Civic 5-speed. I'd like to use it in my current car, and was able to easily take off the stock **** and replace it with the wooden one. But the way the boot attaches to the stock **** doesn't work well with the wooden ****.

I'd like to make a new boot that will work with the old ****, but can't figure out how to take the stock boot off. Can anybody tell me how to do this?

Thank you.

BTW - I have some performance parts for late-'70's CVCC Civics that I'd like to get rid of. Anybody into that era Civics?

Just go on ebay and pick up a 02-05 Type R boot, the U.S. one snaps in while the Japan one has a little lip where the **** sits on.

Thanks for the info. From the photos of it, it looks like you have to get behind the dash panel to unscrew three screws and remove the boot from behind. Is that correct? Any details on how to go about it?

in my 02 civic I changed my boot. In the middle of your center console, there should be a lining that cuts across. carefully pop that part up and it should come off.

see link below of mine if its the same as yours.. notice the line across my center console.

Mine is the British-made Civic Si that has the shifter coming out of the dash.

It looks like all I'd really need to change is the little chrome ring that is directly under the shift ****, and maybe the black plastic fitting that goes under the shift boot and snaps into the chrome ring. I tried calling my local Honda dealer, but the guy at the parts desk says that they have no access to the Type R parts database.

Anybody know if that part is all I need and where I can get it?
