Default short shifter differences?

so i searched the forums here and read a lot about short shifters. i got a few questions though...

1. besides the **** being farther away, whats the diff between bended and straight shifters, and what one have you found to be better?

2. i noticed B&M has a standard model and a "race model" (or w/e) of each of the shifters they provide. i called autoanything.com and asked why one was $100- more than the other and they said "one has a slightly shorter throw". just wondering if its signifigantly shorter or not (i.e. worth $100 more)

3. read somewhere that the shorter shifter hits the heat shield on the CAT. big deal or easy fix?

any other recommedations would be appreciated. thanks!

what matters with short shifters is the distance between the pivot point on the shifter and where it meets the linkage (and the short shifters is actually longer, leaving it closer to all the gears, making a quicker shift).

You probably wouldn't regret spending the money on a nice short shifter vs. an eBay one. You don't wanna risk breaking it.

My linkage rubs my exhaust in 3rd and 4th gear just a little bit. If i hold the ****, it goes away though. Its just a little bit annoying, nothing too major, and i've heard about grinding down the linkage so it doesn't rub, or you can extend your exhaust hangers, but both ways are risky.

And why is this in appearance? Try Transmission next time
