Tail Light Tint

Tail Light Tint
I want to do this, but I am concerned that the brake lights would be harder to see during the day. Do auto parts stores carry higher intesity brake light bulbs? What wattage are the stock bulbs, and what wattage do you think I should replace them with?
Also, with the VHT Nightshades tint, would just 1 or 2 coats allow enough light through so I don't need brighter bulbs?

its true that the tint will make the lights harder to see in the day. As far as i kno, they dont make OEM higher intensity bulbs, but you can custom fit your own. lol im sure addiction will assist with loads of words and pics once he see's this so ill leave it to him. He took an led strip and wired them to the stock switch. Basically, it depends on the look you want. If you just want smoked, 1 light coat will be fine and the lights will shine through 97% of what they did before the tint. If you want blacked out (mine) you need 3 cots and your prolly down to around 65% as much light as before on a sunny day. However, on a cloudy day or at night, you really cant tell that the tint is even on the lights when their on. It just appears that you have some dim tails, but they arent even that dim, and the break lights shine right through. The parking lights are the problem on sunny days and thats about it, their very dim with sun shining on them. Then again, the parking lightsare dimduring a sunny day anyways without the tint People see my blinker and people see my break lights during the day, and i have had many cops follow me and not pull me over during the day too, so the visibility is pretty damn good (knock on wood) Plus if you dont like what youve done, you can sand it off and do less/more coats next time! good luck

Ok, I think I just want them smoked cus my car has already been in one major accident and I don't feel like getting in another one, lol. Anyways, would I just put on 1 coat, and sand it down until my desired level of smokedness (lol) is acheived?

RE: Tail Light Tint
no no lol def dont do that. First you take the lights off and sand them with a fine grit sand paper. This will scuff them up and make them look ruined at first, but it makes the tint stick much better. Once u sand evenly, use rubbing alchohol and a paper towel or lint free cloth to clean them off. Then from like 8 inches away, in a place where there is no wind, evenly spray back and forth from the top to the bottom once. Let it dry for like 20 minutes, then spray from the side of the light, on all sidesto get the the red lense you couldnt get from the front. If you dont do this part, it will look like the sides arent tinted and will look like poop when the sun hits it lol Let that dry for like 20 minutes too, then put 2 coats of clear coaton it, within 20 min intervals, evenly spraying as you did with the tint. This is for protection and gloss, but make sure you like the darkness of the lights before you put it on, because youll have to sand it all off and start over once you clear coat, and gettin that shiit off is a pain in the ***. lol let that dry and enjoooyyyyyy!! Fora more detailed instruction, use the search, i know there is a DIY with pics from addiction
good luck

^^^ or your nearest large auto accessory store. Ive only be able to find it in places like auto zone if it was a big store.........the one near my house is small and doesnt have it. If you search around town though i bet ull find it nestled in the back with the spray paint lol

RE: Tail Light Tint
i bought from summitracing.com
but no.... thiers no brighter bulbs you can simply put in... cause higher power bulbs use more power.... do youd HAVE TO UPGRADE YOUR BRAKE LIGHT WIRES.... or add a new power wire a good size wire..... to the trunk and then with a relay you can use the brake light wire stock... to power the relay to put out power from the larger brake wire to the brighter bulb... then you still run into problems with heat.... cause MOST THE TIME... brighter bulbs mean MORE HEAT... and ya dont want your taillights to start warping from the extra heat
i have experimented with some superflux leds BUT didnt like how even they looked... and well i had bought some more taillights and baked apart the outter side taillights lenses off and stuck in a single led flexstrip which looked very nice... BUT im going for MAXIMUM LIGHT OUTPUT "with" EVEN GLOW ALL AROUND....
BUT unfortunatly with this 94civic project i got going now i dont have any extra money to buy all the flexstrips for my taillights to finish them! was gonna cost me ruffly 140bucks... for all the flexstrips. and well I KNOW most people wont wanna spend that much.LOL
so i sugest leaving the lower clear section clear and untinted and then doing some custom wiring on your taillights and use some red led bulb units and put them in the lower clear section...
