Default Is there any function to a rear spoiler?

I notice a modifcation most people do to their sub-compacts is to attach a large rear spoiler, or wing, or what ever you call it. Indy cars and stock cars use a rear spoiler. At high speeds the wind puts a lot of force on the spoiler, which keeps the rear of the car from weaving, and the rear wheel driven tires from braking loose.

Does a rear spoiler have any function for a front wheel drive vehicle? Does a spoiler have any function for vehicles that rarely travel over 80 mph?

My guess is it's only cosmetic.

it has pretty much the same fuction as race cars. its going to help air flow, so the slower u drive the pointless it will be yes

you really dont need one unless you are turning hard above 60 miles an hour.

well to answer that...no. the only purpose a wing has on a fwd car is that at speeds over 80mph, there is alot of force on teh hood of the car from airflow, which can lower the front of the car a very tiny bit. a spoiler will actually even that force out across your car if it is a good one. but for the most part, unles you are driveing a JGTC car, a large wing really won't do a thing for you. only for looks. even though i personally don't think they even look all that great...

Yeah, and those erector set spoiler totally help out at high speeds with downforce and everything. They were engineered for performance in mind.

This seems as good a place as any to put this. I had seen today a tracer/escort with white painted steelies, decals from companies I know do not make parts for this car,and I swear a snowboard painted silver for a wing on some funky *** braces. I got a pi on a freinds cell I had to run into an intersection to get it but I think it is clear enough. I will try to post it soon. Also a 03 ex coupe with a sunfire front clip and some chrome snowflake CABO ? rims. All this rice and no Generel tso chicken?
