Default tow hook dimensions????

ok i want to make my own tow hooks for my new civic and was wondering what size they normally are. i need to know how thick they are and what size the tow hole is and of what brand you are referring to. then i will find a pic online and just scale it to that and make some of my own style. thanks in advance for anyone with this info

haha, wish I saved my template I used a long time ago. I used 1/2 inch aircraft aluminum with an interior hole of something like 3.5" (can't really remember). Then I made something like a ~6" outer diameter and made a custom template to fit perfectly with my bumper contours. Then made a small wedge shaped backing out of the same material with two 1/2" stainless bolts with stainless washers and stainless nylon locking nuts. Then painted the hook and backing semi black. Then I bolted it up.

yeah i was thinking about making a template but i kinda wanted somewhere to start to make it a little easier. i think im just going to use 6061 aluminum, its not aircraft, but it will work fine and its free at work (as long as i dont take to much they dont care) then going to machine it out, something nice and simple to start to see if they look good

I've also made one out of 6061, works great, but if you're doing this with air tools like I did, expect to go through many flapper wheels due to melting, lol, that crap is fairly strong, but has a low freaking melting point. I wish I waited til now, I have access to 1/2" titanium plating and a water jet, lol. Another good thing to do, when I was finished, I sprayed mine in my sand blaster, that is if you're painting it. Machined finishes are easy too, especially with hand tools.
