Default vtec light help

Hey guys, at work on a saturday and only had one car to work on so had some time to kill been checking out this vtec light mod that some people have been doing and i thought i would, really liked the idea. Basically, tapped my 12v led to the green wire with yellow stripe, grounded on bare metal on the left bottom side under the glovebox.

Now, i have a question: i cant run out and drive my car right now, but i tried to rev to 5500 rpm and it didnt light up. is that due to vtec not kicking in when im in neutral? btw, engine d16y8 swapped, but with the d16y8 ecu as well.

I know that you have to be at operating temp and have good oil pressure before vtec will engage. I guess i will find out when i start driving lol, but wanted to know what you guys had to say. Also, i didnt want the whole dash to flare up bright *** red, so i took a more discrete and, i think, classy look. Lemme know what you think.

Ugh... resize your pic

Anyways, VTEC will not engage when you are in neutral.

What I think of the mod? Eh, something cheap and fun, but may lose it's "cool factor" after awhile.

maybe try switching the cables to the LED.maybe you got em backwards.
because leds only work one way.

I think the placement of the LED is gonna be super annoying and will need to be covered after it gets annoying lol.

I'd say DaOne's right on reversing the LEDs polarity; if you have it backwards it won't function (though it will not hurt the LED if you accidentally reverse it).

Also, vtec engagement on the SOHC is 4,800rpm IIRC. The 5,500 is for most DOHC engines.

LOL! yes! i knew it was earlier than 5500, always said it looked like it kicked in earlier, sounded as such too. But, my friends always said the EX was a gas saver, thus 5500 vtec kickin in yo. gonna go reverse wires, brb.

nope switched wires, nothing. :/ no way this can be so complicated, i work with this **** daily this is trippin me out guys @_@. possibly my wire tap didnt latch correctly. going to redo the tap tomorrow, possibly just use a crimp cap and cap both the vtec and my led + together.

bump for halp.

still, changed tap but to no avail. not sure how i can test it as the current isnt sent through the vtec wire until 4800 rpm in gear
