"LOCKED KEYS IN YOUR CAR?"
Got this in an email at work today... Anyone ever heard of this? I'm curious to try it out. Hmmmm....
This is ingenious
If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home,
call someone on your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot
from your car door and have the other person at your home press the
unlock button of your key fob (clicker), holding it near the phone on
their end.
Your car
doors will unlock.
Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.
Distance is no object you could be hundreds of miles away,
and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote"
for your car, you can unlock the doors (or trunk)!
Editor's note: It works fine!
We tried it out, and it unlocked our car.
I locked the car, had my youngest daughter call me while I
was far away from the car.
I clicked open into the phone and I could hear the car doors unlock
through her cell phone.
My daughter confirmed that sure enough the doors opened.

I just had a cheap spare key made up that I keep in the change pocket of my wallet. I've never had to use it because I have a DX with manual locks, and in order to lock the driver's side door while it's open you have to hold the outer door handle open. Anyone with a 5th gen coupe knows how freakishly retarded you look trying to do that. Anyway, I've found that just locking the door with the key on the outside works just fine. But it's nice to have the spare key, especially when my shift lock is having a bad day.

taht sounds pretty cool... but i heard a lot of new cars with power lock will not allow you to lock the car if your keys are in it. and for older cars this helps none cause they don't have remotes... but like shellebelle said i also keep a spare in my wallet in case of these unfortunate situations
Thanks Shellbelle, that figures though... Where and how do people come up with this stuff? Spare key, always a good idea. I've got an extra I keep in my wallet as well, and my wife has another. Locked them up once at the car wash and had to call my wife. That's when I got an extra for my wallet.
