Default 4G64 question

Many of you guys know that right now I'm driving a 92 Eagle Summit Wagon AWD. It's got a 2.4 mitsubishi engine. I was told that this engine is a 4G64 and that this engine is boost unfriendly...I wasn't explained why that was, or how I can tell if it's a 4g64...any mitsubishi gurus here please help on this...I was planning to run 4-6 lbs of boost on this thing, but now I'm shaky...I do not want to crack the engine open...

Dude the 4g64 is a great engine to go with. Where do you think all the evo guys get their "stroker blocks".

My buddy has a 00 eclipse(they also have a 4g64 in them stock) with a evo 8 head and intake manifold, forged 8 to 1 compression pistons, forged rods, and a devilish turbo setup. With the auto transmission, a EVO Big 16G, and emanage pulled 223whp and 235wtq on 8psi

It now has AEM EMS, and is waiting for the rest of the crap to convert to 5 speed, looking for monster numbers

I'm asking here because I know that this is a great forum even if I'm a 'lil off topic:-D

md420, do you know if a stock 13 years old 100K miles 4g64 will blow up from 5-6 lbs? I just don't know what I can do in terms of fuel management...I know nothing about MAF sensors:-D

Actually looking into the engine bay, the engine I have looks like a galant engine...the engine on the right, the tranny on the left, while the eclipse engine is on the left and tranny on the right...

The 1st gen Eclipse engines(4g63) sits on the left with the tranny on the right. I say do a compression and leak down test to assure the engine is in good working order. You can swap in a 1st gen eclipse ecu and use a multitude of managements. Check out a DSM forum of some sorts. Everything that will bolt to the 4g63's will go on your engine. The head, turbo setups, and so on. I will holla at my buddy this weekend and get some info for you.

Yes, the 2.4's were in the older galants, the 2nd gen eclipse spyder, and the 3rd gen eclipse gs/rs. All the same engine with minor modifications. The main difference is the 3rd gen eclipse 4g64 are sohc while all the earlier gens are dohc. there are other small differences like the thermostat housing, and water system, along with the intake manifold and other small bit's.

I am telling you get on a DSM site, the 1st and 2nd gen 4g64 is a very very sought after engine in the eclipse world along with the 3rd gen 4g64 being very sought after by the EVO guys. I'll get more info this weekend for you. I know a good bit about them allready being I have put in and taken out the one in my buddies car 3 times. We also have a 4g64 block ready to go the the shop for a fresh bore. I'll snap a couple picsfor you of everything too.
