Default Aerodynamics

Ok heres the deal, i have a 98 Civic cx Hatch,
my plans with the car is to make it a sick track car
but also a sweet JDM ride for around town.

Now my question is should i keep the stock bumpers
or dump it for the TRUE Buddy Club kit not that wings
west crap, or stick with the stock parts and add on a
APR front splitter and front bumper canards?
i know With the Buddy kit it will add weight due that its all
fiberglass but the APR is carbonfiber, please Keep in mind that
im putting a H22 in so there is going to be more
weight in the front, thats why i need the front to stick.
I guess what im really asking which will hug the track
better? I hope someome can help me with this.

Since im on the topic of track, what kind of suspension should
i get, KW, or Apex N1, or it you know of a better one let me
know.

Default RE: Aerodynamics

mugen body kits are expe3nsive for 1 reason, they are windtunnel tested to make your car more aerodynamic, anything else is just a bodykit.

now if you add a lip spoiler, side skirts and some other things they aill improve your aerodynamics some, but how much you can't know unless you own or rent a wind tunnel. basically a lip spoiler keeps the air from traveling underneath your car to reduce lift because your car is roughly shaped like an aircraft wings cross section. so by reduceing the airflow underneath your car, you effectivly will stay on the road a little bit more. side skirts will keep air from escaping under your car and also not allowing more under it.

keep your car as level as posible, because if you have a forward rake (the front is lower than the back) you are increasing the total surface area of your car and creating more drag.

make the outside of your car as smooth as possible to keep the airflow over your car from being interrupted. remove windsheild wipers, squirters, antennas, etc

a spoiler or wing on your car may or may not help. most likely it will not so i would stay away from them unless you want one for looks or a on car tanning bed.

now most of these will only make minimal if any changes to you lap times at the track, so your best bet would be to just practice and practice so you becaome a better driver, and really tune and tweak your suspension so you can drive the car fast.

why would you need a skid plate? i run one on my jeep under the transfer case so i don't bash it on a rock. but never on my honda.

and a splitter will work good, they will add downforce to your car, just hope it doesn't get ripped off. bumper canards are just a fad imo and pretty useless along with the vortex generators on the roof of the evo mr (useless unless they are windtunnel tested and proven to work)

splitters work if your scared of scrapping the ground and a skid plate would also be a plus

i ask about skid plate because less air goes in your engine bay so less drag

a skid plate would work i guess, but there is not substitute for driving skill. adding all this stuff to your car will be a lot of money, and what better place to spend money on for a track car than a high quality suspension

look at what other people are using and running at the track, if they are turning good times and winning racing copy off them. aerodynamics are not going to affect your car that much at all, until you get into very high speed racing, so i would recommend working the suspension first and getting that setup and becoming a better driver then add some aerodynamic stuff to help out some. because that front splitter or buddyclub bodykit is gonna get ruined when you drive off the track at 50+ mph because you forgot to upgrade your suspension. these things are a band-aid for driver skill and suspension
