I think the problem might lie in that your monitor is a 4:3 aspect ratio while the TV is 16:9. Many 4:3 monitors that ship with PCs (although nowadays most monitors are widescreen/16:9) have max resolutions of 1280x1024 px, so when your video card goes to 1386x768 px for the TV, the monitor is unable to show it since it maxes out at a width of 1280 px.

This is just a theory...

Does your NVIDIA control panel allow you to set separate resolutions for each monitor while in clone mode, or does it force you to use the same resolution on both monitors?

If it won't let you do separate ones, try setting it the 1280x1024 and see if there is video on both screens, even though the one on the TV will look funny. I just want you to try that so we can see if that's the problem. You can change it back afterwards to whatever you had it on.

 

well it lets me change the resolutions for seperate monitors. the computer screen is set at 1280 by 1024.
and my tv is set at 1805 by 988 which fit the whole screen good. i can go one larger size but the picture goes to wide.
but i guess its not a huge problem anymore. ive just been using my tv. thanks anyways for your help. at least i got video on my tv so im happy about that! only cost me about 60bucks for the cables. i used one dvi to hdmi 6ft length and then a joint to extend it another 3-6ft with another hdmi cable to the tv. i havent even messed with the audio yet.

 

Oh alright. I can see why though, you've got a huge TV! Looks great on it.

You know what you need now? a real comfy racing seat that you can just put on the floor and sit in while you use the computer

Well the computer doesn't send sound from the DVI port, so that's your problem.

 

o no thats not it.LOL i have my computer ran directly into the tv so i dont have to turn on the receiver every time... the receiver is for my cable box and xbox360.

i dont even need audio for the computer really. only thing that makes noise is my email alerts and IMs. i have the cables to hook it up but i just dont need it right now.

 

Oh I see. Well that's strange with the HDMI's not working. I have them plugged into my surround sound system just fine.

 

well do they have to be HDMI input for them to work on the output cable?
unfortunately my xbox doesnt have the hdmi plug so i have to use the components for it. but my cable box didnt even get video to the output the sound played but no picture kinda odd.
i guess ill just have a mess behind my tv. at least its nothing like my old tv was!!!!! that thing was a wiring nightmare!
i kinda cleaned it up with buying a used wireless piece for my xbox since i didnt want to run a network cable around my room. so that cleaned up one wire extra.

 

Actually, HDMI isn't necessarily better than component. It varies by specific application. For example, with my XBOX360 on component I get amazing quality picture, and no difference with the HDMI.
Just wanted to point that out.

o no i wasnt saying it was bad, BUT it sure is a hell of a lot cleaner wiring wise than component hd cables! one simple small plug compared to 5 rca wires.
