Da Da Da Da...Super Banker!
Ok ok, I know that was super lame. But o well, thats how I felt today. Story:
Im an authorized signer for Wells Fargo, so that means when tellers need approvals, Im one of the people who approve the transactions. So Im gettin ready to head out tonite, and a teller said she was gonna need an approval. I was on the phone with my manager, so I walk over to the window and see whats up wtih the transaction. The teller shows me the check that the customer wanted to cash. The check was for $8700. Drawn on Bank Of America in Georgia. And the check was from T-Mobile in Washington. That was the first thing I noticed. Then I looked over the kids account. No joke, had $2 in his account. 25 OD's and 3 returned items. (THats pretty bad!) So I was like umm we can take it for deposit, and place a hold on the check, but theres no way myself, or any Wells Fargo employee is going to cash this off of your account. When I ask the kid why TMobile issued him (who didnt even work for TMobile) a check for that amount, he responded with "Its a money order, it doesnt need a hold because its garunteed funds". I was like, First, please show me anywhere on this check where it says Money Order. (It didnt) Then I told him, if it said Money Order, it would mean it was fake because money orders are never issued over $1000. I was examing the check more closely and saw that there were many different fonts on the check, and the signature did not look real. Also, the sizes of the fonts didnt match. Really, after examing the check, it was totally fake. While the customer was there, I deposited the check with an extended hold, but after talking to my manager, we took it back out of his account.
I kno this all sounds totally boring to most of you, but it just made me happy to know that I stopped one stupid kid from frauding my bank. Plus, if I approved that transaction, and somehow he got the hold lifted, and the funds made available before the check had cleared from the "B OF A Account", I would have taken an $8700 loss. So W00T! for Amanda! Haha.

Thanks guys! This morning when I was sleepin, a co worker called cause they needed me to go in and open the vault for em. So while I was down there, I talked to my manager, and got confirmation from B of A and TMobile that it was fraudulent. My boss called the kid and told him he needed to come get his check and take it to B of A to cash out, and then we can deposit the cash, so he has no hold. Then I called our local police department and filed a report. The stupid thing was that hes a customer, and we have ALL of her information.
O and neon, what bank does your girl work for?
