do you change your own oil?
i thought you did it on a warm engine? i would always start the car, go around the block, and then park it again to get the oil warm so it flowed better. i forgot the gloves part last time and of course i had to drop the drain bolt into the oil pan filled with the draining oil. it was a mess
I do that all the time. The real problem is when the oil misses the pan and all your sockets end up with oil all over them. I have literally like 60 sockets with oil on them.
wish u woulda brought this up a lil over a week ago, thats when i did my last oil change in my car and i woulda written up a very descriptive diy with pics... the diy i wrote up is with my sisters 99 civic ex by the way....
yea you can warm up the oil to make it drain better. with the sockets getting all messy, why do you need so many with you under the car? i don't mind getting my hands dirty, as long as the job gets done.
Shoot Im a mechanicat work but i really cant do my oil change there so I do it at home on a weekend. I just did an oil change like 3 weeks ago and I also could of doe a diy too. Oh well. Its real easy. I buy the oil and filter and pull up on my ramps let it cool off for a while and then change the oil.
Yup... I dont trust anyone to do work on my car. Changing the oil is an excuse to get under the car and check everything out. I don't trust shops... I took my teg in to have it looked at b/c it idled funny... the mechanic there told me my car had no iacv... and the thing I was looking at was the tps. So yup.. they suck.
Walmart does as good a job changing oil as any oil change shop. They drained the oil but forgot to put any back in. Had to pay for a new engine. Best to do it yourself. Get one of those drain pans that has a spout and cap for catching the oil then pour it back in the bottles. Makes disposal a lot easier. switch to synthetic oil, gas mileage is much better due to less friction and no it will not void your warranty or harm your engine. It is a superior lubricant.I use synthetic oil, grease, gear lube and auto trans fluid in everything that has a motor. Air cooled engines run cooler and last longer. Castrol syntec, good as any, that's what I use and have for over 15 years. You'll get 3 to 4 miles per gallon more in your civic just by switching to synthetic oil. My '91 hatch automatic got 43 on the last highway mileage check and I drive 80+ whenever possible. Switched to syn.oil when I bought it at 123000 miles, never a problem.

EDIT: I meant to say I do everything in my power to keep other people FROM touching my car. I haven't been on the grammatical ball lately.
