First Mod Ever
So, this afternoon, all by my lonesome self, I installed an AEM cold air intake in my Mazda.
It took a little while than I expected because of all of the extra plastic splash guard stuff and coverings that Mazda installed in the vehicle as well as the fact that they essentially hid or made utterly inaccessable the bolts to the resonator. Once I got everything out, installation was a breeze. The MAF and BAP came out and went back in with no problems, too. I didn't get a CEL when I started her back up but I did get a fast idle for about 90 seconds (it went back to normal and stayed that way, though).
The car has responded to this mod much better than I expected it to. I thought that there'd be a modest little power gain, and a funny growl to the engine sound. But I'm very pleasantly surprised by the noticeable and remarkable increase in acceleration speed, the new improved instantaneous throttle response, and the rich, aggressive, vibrant sound that eminates from my engine bay through the entire RPM range.
I cannot WAIT to do some exhaust and headers work. Considering that my car has reacted to the simple CAI this well, I'm excited to see what happens when I improve its breathing even further.

Thats one of the reasons I love modding for the small things like that. Its like a addiction you got one fix and it will last for a while then all you can think about is more.[&:]

reminds me of myself
First mod i ever made was making a block off plate to the heimholtz resonator in my 98 gmc sierra intake. nothing gained (subjectively, anyway) but i felt a great sense of accomplishment.
