The HCF Gun Thread
ladies and gents, u all know i suck at uploading pics. sorry for the thumbnail. if someone can fix it, awesome. anywho, here it is. my new self defense weapon. BNIB pt 24/7 .40ss didnt want an xd or a 92f, damn sure didnt want a glock. after extensive research, i decided this was the most bang for my buck. had to get the stainless slide too...
Just spent a whole day with a Ruger SR9 at the range. I was considering buying it, but I couldn't get accurate with it at 15 meters. The bullets all went in a nice, tight group, but always 1' down and to the right of where I wanted. I could probably adjust, just seems like that's the only handgun I really need that big of an adjustment. Otherwise it's a solid piece of equipment. Feels nice.
Better than the P12. I was lucky to get the thing on paper at 15 yards (then again, so were the two others that shot it. One was at 15 yards and barely touched paper and the other was a 25 yard bench rest, 3 shots, 1 on paper)... of course it was under-lubricated and it needs a recoil spring something terrible (along with ammo that's who-knows-how-old). With it loaded at full 12+1 capacity, you can pull the slide back, lightly let it go, and it will leave the chamber with about 1/2" exposed. Last time I took it out I ended up having to yank the slide back after almost every other round to chamber the next round. The good news is that a Wolff recoil spring is about $8, and while I'm at it I can get a +10% power mag spring for about the same price
I expect it to be a little more fun to shoot with the jamming issue resolved. With fresh ammo and a little more practice, it shoot be shooting pretty straight
(and Gene, out of all the members on this forum, you're about the last one I'd expect to bump this thread with something 100% relevant and serious)

Chris, this is guns. Guns are serious business. Plus I'm sure people would like to know real feedback. I'm coming back with 150 rounds for that gun again. I have a feeling I'm just misunderstanding it. I like it a lot, the way it feels in the hand.
I know, but you're almost never serious in the Lounge. Actually, you've been doing pretty well lately. First the cell phone thread, now this? I'm proud of you
But yeah, Ruger makes some quality products, and if the groups were tight, I'd say it's just a matter of getting used to the gun.
If it makes you feel better, it took about 100 rounds to get the AR sighted in and shooting tight groups. Granted, it's a rimfire and shoots best when the barrel is a little dirty, but still.
