Honda Fit
So, there was some promo event in my neighborhood today for the upcoming Honda Fit. My wife and I kind of stumbled into it by accident. We were walking down the street and some college age kids in bright orange Honda Fit t-shirts handed us all sorts of fliers and stuff and talked us into checking the thing out. We're still shopping for a new car so we figured we'd check it out. So we found where they were having this event. It was kind of awkward. There was a mob of these kids in orange t-shirts and we were the only people visiting the thing. On top of that, there wasn't anyone there who was really knowledgeable about the car in general. I was looking under the hood and asking questions like, "So, how much horsepower does this engine make?" and they were like, "Did you see the rear seats? They fold up!" and I said, "Yeah, those are pretty cool. What about some displacement figures?"
But despite the promo experience, that little car is really quite cool. It's got a nifty interior that show off some of the features of the 5 door European Civic. It's also got those neat wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a 5 speed transmission. It's a shame that they wasted such cool features on a car that makes 110hp with a 1.4 litre engine. It'd be much more worthwhile to put a feature like that on the new Civic or Si, wouldn't it?
All in all, it's a fun car, I think. It'd be great for driving in the city. It remindes me of my old hatch, actually. Park it anywhere, fit anything in it. But like my old hatch, I'd feel ill at ease on the highway with it. Un-modded, it has really very little passing/hill-climbing ability and I'd feel uneasy around 18 wheelers.
Also, the Fit is just too damn cute looking.
The car comes with two trim lines, Fit and Fit Sport. I wish they'd add a third level that includes a complete exterior makeover (maybe something a little more Type-R looking) and the engine from the 06 Civic. Then we'd have the Fit, Fit Sport, and Fit Sport with *****.

Honda's invading the Autoweek forums with viral marketing. every other post is about the HOnda fit... lol.
I'm bustin' everybody's chops about how bad the new dodge caliber fared versus the fit in the new Car & Driver magazine.
the fit came in first. the caliber came in SIXTH out of seven. lol.
the caliber doesn't even have a tach. WTF!!???

The caliber and fit are both fairly ugly to me though
You can get all the details on this car at honda.com , They say it's 109 hp and 1.5 litre vtec. Manual or auto, only the auto has paddle shifters. It will go on sale april 20 priced between 13 and 14 thousand. Gas mileage is rated about 39 hiway. As gas approaches three to four dollars a gallon this summer cars like this will be snapped up fast but not many get that kind of mileage. Power is nice but gas mileage will be the priority when those prices hit us. We have a '91 hatch and I don't understand your problem with it on the highway. I run it 80 and 90 mph and have no problem passing and yes it is a bone stock automatic, very stable at highway speeds. We plan to buy the FIT auto around the end of this month and keep the hatch too.

Depends on which model line, the R/T line is AWD w/ 180hp and has a tach. Surely the SRT-4 model has it with the turbo and 300hp also AWD

No AWD option for the SRT4 version because it couldn't handle the power of the turbo engine, according to latest Car & Driver.
