Default Jobs

So, just out of curiosity, what do you guys do for a living? I noticed almost everyone here has at least minor modifications done to their cars. Looks like most of you make pretty decent money. I currently work at a subrogation company (yell at idiots/suspend their driver's license) and it pays nothing....around 1200/month after taxes. My car payment is 409, insurance is almost 200, and rent is 300 (parents). That really doesn't leave much $ to do anything spectacular to my car after buying gas/food/smokes.
Sorry for the boring story, just wanted to get to know peeps. Anyone know of anything I could do with cars that would pay more without having to go to school? There's a schholing place called Lincoln Tech down here and they used to sponsor my dad's dirt track race car and they were idiots. I would really rather not go to something like that. =/

this topic is a repost, but eehhh who cares hehehe

Full time student at uc berkeley, so most of my money goes towards paying my tuition[:'(]. Right now, I'm currently working for the economics department of my school, I do remodeling work like painting, moving furniture, etc (Although, half the time i'm just taking a break). I only work 3 days a week but get pay for the whole week and even when my boss doesn't need me to come in for work, I still get pay[&:]

However, I did most of my car's mods when i was in high school, when i had no school bills to worry about.

I only get paid $1000/month, working as a bus boy 3 days a week. I'm broke, but I am a bit better off than you, since I don't have any car or rent payments. I'm trying to get a job, delivering tires for $15/hr (full time). I think one of the better ways to make money is by working at sales, but I honestly hate it. People that work in the industry are mostly slimeballs and I hate lying to people in order to make a sale.

EDIT: I'm also a college student, but I took out a loan, so I don't have to pay that much right now

So affording the mods is a patience is a virtue thing? I feel retarded for having a stock civic with rims (traded my stock ones to a friend who liked them better than his konig's) and no performance upgrades. I see lots of people on here with boost or a built engine and it seems you would have to make some serious cash to be able to afford that. Maybe it's because I pay so much for my car. -.-

Ouch. At least you don't have the other bills. It's hard for me to afford gas right now. I barely rolled into work this morning. -.-

I have been thinking of getting a second job for now to help bring in some extra cash but that would make it hard for me to start taking night classes with a full and part time job.

What do you guys have done to your rides? If I had the money for parts I could do all of the work myself in my friend's garage, but I'm not that lucky. =/ I am most likely going to buy a cai from a member on this site at the end of the month...guess that's a start.

Umm...to start off with I bought a used car that I could pay cash for with no payments. I don't have to pay rent because it is mostly taken care of by scholarship money at UT. I don't smoke and I know that costs A LOT of money (or at least it adds up). That's how I pay for everything.

I was pretty dumb for buying my car. I had just started my first job at a law firm making pretty big bucks for my age and had cash to blow. I walked into a dealership with no credit and no cash until my next check. I left with a $19,000 car that I made no down payment on and didn't pay anything on for 2 months, but I also got a 17.9% finance rate bringing the cost of my car to 29.6k. It really bothers me knowing I could have bought a c5 vette for that. [:@]

Yeah, but insurance is the kicker. =/ Live and learn. Hopefully if I get a chance this weekend I'm going to try to refinance my car through my bank (credit union). That will drop my payments down almost $75/month according to their calculator on their site.
