IS IT LEGAL?
Hi all.. Mason here. cool forum. I own a 2003 Civic and have lots of questions and pics to share on some mods I'm working on. I came across a brand new accessory for plate frames - it's an LED Frame that scrolls messages like a ticker. It's customized by a wireless remote.. just very cool for a number of reasons.. wondering if anyone on the forum has seen/has one of these? I came across the site that promotes them.. I'd like to post the link here Just to show how this looks and see if anyone else has experience and/or feedback. Hope that's ok. My main concern (when you see it you'll understand) is if it will be considered legal or not.. I gather it's so new no one probably knows. I live in New York State and they're pretty srtrict with aftermarket products and anything that's not considered "standard" and stock.
If interested, I am posting the link just to see what this is -

Hope to hear feedback on this..
Thanks and glad to be here..

like most accessory lighting its probably only legal while parked or the vehicle is stationary.. but it would have to do with ur local area.. contact ur police as long as ur not driving with it on i dont think they will care
Yeah, it appears everfyone has their own take on it.... the local police say that if I was not speeding orf doing something to illicit a pull-over, they would probably leave me alone. Then there might be others who will take action immediately.. it all depends on who you encounter on the highway. I also checked with New York DMV "technical services" and they are claiming that it violates a few rules, mostly covering a metal plate with plastic (how many plastic covers can you count on the highway?!) and, the issue of the "red lights". While these are LED, scrolling letters and not standard by any means, it becomes questionable. I wonder if it could be challenged in a court if actually ticketed for this.
So, with all that... any more feedback on this? And, would any of you folks go for it and try one of these?
Thanks again!

I thought neon and strobes and all were OK as long as you arent moving... I was wrong. When I first had my truck like 8 years ago (Lowrider with spokes, etc) me and some friends were in a parking lot with our strobes going and neon on. Some cops came by and gave us all tickets for $45 each.
So I was wrong in thinking it was OK as long as I was parked. I think they can give you a ticket for just about anything if they want.

so if they can ticket for just about anything (seems that way) than I guess it's worth trying it. I would imagine if you saw more and more of these on the streets they would either become "the norm" and accepted or completely banned.. just can't see why it should cause a problem in general.
if ur just parked and showing it off and whatnot, they wont do anything. its prolly the same laws as exterior neons. and the fact that its red LEDs really wont help, i hear that any blue or red exterior lighting is illegal while in motion cuz it looks too much like a cop car with its lights on. some cops say they wont do anything and other cops will pull u over, its prolly a safer bet that most cops would pull u over...
I agree that if the car is parked it should not cause too much of a problem (car can be turned off completely and the LED will still work).. but the cool thing it comes with is the wireless remote! I don't think you can turn the thing on and off while driving BUT when out of the car you just point and click on-click off.. I'm convincing myself to get this..... [sm=signs007.gif]
