I need money for my GSR build, so i figure i could fix cars in my garage on the side for money. I live in the U.S. and we are very sue happy around here as many of us may know. Does anyone know if there is something i can do so that if i screw up i won't get sued? Like a waiver or something?

meh...id try to get a job at an auto shop or something. work out of there for a while, and once you get some regulars you should try doing work on their cars outside of your job...get money under the table ya know. you could start a buisness that way

btw a waiver isnt a bad idea.

my dad runs a shop, and you have to have "garage insurance"...if not, you can get in some serious trouble, especially if something goes wrong..when i worked as a tech, people were always trying to make a buck...we had someone come back and say that "we drained their tranny fluid, so they would bring their car back", and we never even had it off the ground...

What autoshop would hire a 17 year old kid, straight out of high school (technically still in high school) for a part time job? I couldn't even get hired at Autozone or Murray's

hey, i worked at a monro muffler and service shop...and we always had a younger guy who did oil changes...once they prove that they were competant, they would get bigger jobs like brakes, exhaust...etc...if you have corporate shops around you..or anyplace that does oil changes and more, try getting in at those places as a "lube tech" for the time being, and in many cases, you can get into doing commission work..with brakes and such.

I'll take that action. I gotta do a brake job on my civic this weekend (if the pads come in) and mayble ill do a DIY on it. But i gotta find a way to fix cars under the table and not be liable for any screw ups i may have.

i mean, if you do work for people that you, or your friends or parents know, thats one thing, but anything like advertising could get you into trouble...also, a DIY would be great!

romance, if i still lived in PA, i would do it! [8D]

well, as long as you are doing it through word of mouth, i think that you should be ok, but make sure that you do a good job! lol

a few ways to get people to come to you...shops make a ton on labor, and on parts...if you get pads and rotors for a job, charge the "customer" list..and then charge them labor..when i was with monro, we charged 80 an hour...and i gouged people on parts as well...i had brake jobs that were over a grand...
