Just be careful who you do business with. If you changed someones brakes and then the brakes fail and they crashed, theyd be looking for you to pay the damages.......Also, you are going to have to do CHEAP work......no one is going to want a 17 year old kid working on their car for 40$ an hour, theyd prob rather pay a dealer or shop that will offer a guarentee on work for an xtra 30 bucks an hour..............just playin devils advocate here...........As patrick stated before though.....friends and family and friends of family would be cool, then let word get out that theres a good backyard mech around and youll get some customers........

Me personally, i do Lawn Care on the side in the summer time........i dont have any insurance, let alone business registration......but i gotta be really careful not to damage property, as i would be held responsible..........insurance is expensive........for you and myself (business area).............just start small, and do friends/family.........i wouldnt go as far as messing with strangers as theyd be really quick to blame you for something breaking on their car once you changed something on it.......regardless if you were at fault of the piece breaking............just be careful.........

Thanks for all the advice. I was thinking about mowing lawns in the summer, but there are alot of people that are professional landscapers, so i don't think i could do that.

Landscaping and lawn mowing are two completely different deals. Most pro Landscapers don't do lawns in fact. It is usually subbed out if they take on a contract, and it is usually an entire sub or apt complex. There is good money in doing the neihborhood yards...and the start-up cost is pretty cheap...as long as you have access to a rider.

I don't have a riding lawnmower, but my lawn mower is broken (electric) and we are gonna have to buy a new one. But i dunno if my dad is gonna go for buying a $1000.00 lawn mower.

How much did that set up cost you? I'm thinking in the thousands of dollars. If my dad gets the riding lawnmower, for sure ill start mowing. How did you start out getting customers? I think that would be my biggest problem, especially since i'm new in the neighborhood.
