Cowl induction hoods are used for two things.

1) Making room in the engine bay for something that doesn't physically fit under the hood. A blower is a good example. It's done all the time

2) Engine cooling. It works on pressure differences, not a ram air effect.

However, I'm going to say dude just put it on for looks, so yeah. Just figured I'd point out that cowl hoods actually do have uses. Personally, I plan on rocking my heat extraction hood for as long as it will physically fit over the engine

Again, I'm 98% sure it doesn't apply to the riced-out stang you posted, but auto stangs actually have a lot going for them. Unlike imports, companies actually make products to make domestic automatics fast; shift kits, flash tunes that change the shift points and pressure, high-stall torque converters, etc. Most of the 9- and 10-second mustangs you see are automatics, and I have yet to see anything faster than a 9-second mustang running a 5- or 6-speed.

Again, doesn't apply to that particular car, but figured I'd throw it out there anyway.

I'm just curious as to what everyone thinks the definition of "ricer" is? Far as I have always thought, it is when loads of money has been spent on all these accessories to make a car "look" fast, when it really is not - like mine for instance. I can say that because I bought it that way - I wasn't going to pass up the price for the car just because the previous owner was a ricer. People can call me that all they want - it's not going to stay that way.

On that note, ricer, IMO, is also a state of mind. But seriously - some of these pics are definitely ricers, some are obviously done to be funny as I laughed quite hard at some of them.

What is the problem with modding a car out so long as it has the power and speed to back it up? I mean, it almost seems like either it has to be a sleeper or stock, or it gets no respect? I mean I know these are just opinions but this attitude seems to be gaining steam as a stereotype and I was just curious as to why?
