Okay Tech Expert tell everybody how much it costs????????????5000-6000 dollars what a joke. FOR 11 PERCENT FASTER! I dont think your average user needs anything close to that power. Mac has always had dual processor systems but way to expensive , Where have they been for the last 20 years. The ghz war is a marketing Facad, THAT INTEL HAS WON hands down. If it came down to just being the best we'd all be driving Ferrari's. Mac had to try and come out with the mini mac as an affordable starter computer for first time Mac users because ther stuff is so dam expensive. Microsoft has Owned the bang for your buck market since..................Now go
get your Ipod and hook it up to your little Ipod adapter IN YOUR CAR AND TURN IT up REAL LOUD and pretend you were driving a Ferrari !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way BSEE Cal State Fullerton. So if you really want to talk Tech WITHOUT QUOTING some one else let me know

Who would bother to make viruses for 2% of the market man, wait until apple has 10% then they'll have bunch of security holes and viruses like windows

actually, that would be $3,300 and that's considerably less than a similarly equipped dell or hp...

If you even consider buying from Dell or HP, you deserve to pay out the ***.

Hold the phone. You say that a $3,300 dual 2.5 G5 is well-equipped?!??!? You must not do anything but listen to music and type on your computer then.

Let's break it down a little (straight from the Apple website):

Dual 2.5 G5
512 MB of RAM - You're not doing s**t with that.
250 GB HD, 7,200 rpm - Unfortunately, that only costs about $80 real-world dollars
nVidia GeForce 6,600, 256 MB of SDRAM - The bottom of the barrel in modern graphics cards. Plus, ATI > nVidia
NO MONITOR - Awesome!!
No modem, wireless card, or fiber optic card
S**tty Apple keyboard and mouse - the two most useless peripherals ever created.
OSX
No other software.

I don't even have to say anything else. That speaks for itself. But let's go a little further, shall we?

To upgrade to 8 GB of RAM (the average functional amount in a quad-core system) it's another $2,300. To get to 16 GB, it's $10,300. 1TB of HD space will run you an extra $875 (again, WAAAY overpriced in the modern world). Quadro FX 4,500: $1,650. Not actuall that much of a price increase. A monitor: $800 MINIMUM (for a 20"???)

Now, that brings the final price for a fairly modern computer to... $16,923!!!!!

Now, have you seen any tests of dual Athlon 64 X2 systems? It's not even funny what they can do. To Macs. They can use 32 GB of RAM PER CPU, and the bus speeds are faster than the Mac's clock speeds.

Guess what? Quad-core Opterons will be out early next year. Ever heard of a Mac with 16 or 32 CPUs? It won't happen. Who's behind now?

And make fun of DOS all you want, but it's still the best OS in history. It. Is. Invincible.

Still want to play?

Here's the bottom line: If Mac's were all of the following:

1) Powerful enough to do what I need out of my computer,
2) Expandable, customizeable, and flexible enough to do what I want, and
3) Even remotely close to being reasonably priced for what you get,

...I would probably buy one.

Report: Apple Mac workstations to feature Intel Woodcrest processors as early as third quarter 2006

Monday, April 24, 2006 - 04:14 PM EDT

Asia Pacific sales and marketing group general manager John Antone spoke with Computerworld's Juha Saarinen in Taipei about Intel's focus on low power, more efficient processor designs and seems to have let the cat out of the bag:

"Intel is hoping that the Woodcrest CPU, which promises 8% better performance with a third less power usage, will drive many of the mashed-up apps in high-density server developments. It’s “Everything over IP” for Intel from now on," Saarinen reports. "Apple customers may be the first to enjoy Intel’s new CPU goodies, with the Woodcrest family of processors making it into Macintosh workstations as early as the third quarter. Woodcrest systems will be symmetric multi processing (SMP), with dual processors with up to four cores each."

time to go to your little corner too. own3d.

btw, best OS in history? BAWWHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Ok, so now I've completely shut you up with regard to price points and performance differentials, AND I've even gotten you to prove my point FOR me.

I said there won't be Macs with 16 or 32 CPUs running in parallel. I know Intel and AMD are both working up quad-core CPUs, but that article says "symmetrical multi-processing, with dual processors with up to four cores each."

Who's owned now?

because we'll have ours first. like always.

and we'll always have our quad core intel processor boards first when they roll off the assembly line because that's the deal intel and apple signed.

you don't think apple would sign a deal with intel without incentives do you?

and our price points will still be cheaper, just like they are now.

you've been own3d again. lol.
