I know Trent (greddy civic) is a huge Canon fan, so hopefully he'll be able to help out.

Personally, I'm rocking a Nikon D3000 for now, but the next DSLR I buy might be a Canon

canon makes quality cameras so the one your looking at should be good. I have a Nikon D40

I have an xti. And yea, I'm a pretty big fan of canon > nikon. Mostly because with zoomed in shots (no matter what the lens), the canons dont have as much noise compared to the nikons. This is of course in the newer technology. Granted, for what you want and will probably use a camera for (as with me) you wont really notice it. It was just more of an extra piece of info that swayed my purpose. I have talked to 2 professional photographers. One has used canon and continues to do so because they are usually one step ahead of nikon. The other has switched from nikon to canon due to the reason i stated above

o and check out this canon forum. Easily the most active forum I've seen other than nasioc. While Im writing this, there are almost 1600 users online, 700ish of which are registered users. VERY active. And their marketplace section is fantastic. I mean, fantastic. I got my xti used with only a lil over 1000 pictures taken on it and a lens included as well as the manuals, original box, charger, and a 4gb memory card thinger for 325 shipped.

One thing you need to remember going into all this, is that a good camera does NOT gaurantee you good pictures. As with anything else, most of the people taking excellent photos have spent years learning the tricks of the trade, so do your research.

^^Agreed. Your 3 biggest things to concentrate on at first would be ISO, Aperature, and shutter speed. Id recommend the auto white balance because it does do a fairly nice job on photos. Now, the next biggest step is post processing. Shoot your pictures in RAW, that way when you go into photoshop you can edit many of your photos via a program add on in PS. Itll make them look a LOT better. Ill get some links later, I've got class
