I'd love to get to the point where I can, but right now that would be like handing my 5 year old sister a screw driver and giving her my computer to work on... and you can imagine how that would turn out.

It kinda sucks that since she's my daily driver I don't want to run the risk of her not working when I need her to. Like now, there is something wrong with her transmision (she keeps grinding into 3rd) and since I don't know the first thing about transmisions, off to the shop she's going to go...

I fix most things myself. I only take it to the mechanic when I need the repairs done asap. Here are the things I had replaced at shops: wheel bearing (had no time or expertise), guibo (once again - no time), waterpump (could have easily done it myself, but it happened about 500 miles away from home). So far I did the following repairs by myself on the BMW: cat-back exhaust install, upper and lower control arms, shocks/struts, springs, sway bar links, shock mounts, valve cover gasket, thermostat, breaks, oil, other fluids, plugs, etc.

The only thing I take my car to a shop for is exhaust work because I dont have a welder.

Lat time I took a car into a shop was 8 years ago, my 87 200sx turbo was having fuel problems and I needed a fuel rail and some other work done. Took like 3 weeks to get the rail shipped in...**** i miss that car, rwd turbo mmmmmmm. It was basically a turbo'd Trueno..
