Default Windows to Mac Frusteration

Going for Digital Cinema this year at NMU so i got a Mac instead of the normal Windows laptops (everybody gets a laptop that goes to this college). Anyway, i know evetualy i'll get used to it, but i need to know some things

Why wont it recognize my Philips Go Gear MP3 Player? Its made for both Windows and Mac, but it wont recognize it

I've tried instaling the "AIM for Mac" instant messenger, but it wont open once i download the Installation Program. Ideas?

And is there any way to maximize each window?

I hate this, i feel like i'm compltely restarting with this computer [:@]

EDIT: i have noticed that the graphics on this thing are absolutely amazing, and i'm sure i'll have more questions sooon....thanks guys and gals

You don't need "Aim for Mac, just use iChat that uses AIM and is much better, and if you click the green button on each window it resizes it, if you click it a few times it may fill the whole screen, but maximizing isn't the same as it is on Windows. As for the MP3 player, does it have any software? i woudl check the Sony site for potential software for it.

I installed OS X Tiger on my windows PC last week. You really want to know frustration, try doing that. I had to install OS X like 15 times and two different copies before it would work and my internet still doesn't work. It does have a learning curve since everything is different. You might want to look into a dual boot for your mac, there is a software Apple sells for that. That would solve some of your problems since you could run windows for your day to day stuff and switch to OS X when you need to do graphics work.

Trusst me Flip once you get use to it you will wish that your PC had the functionality of a Mac, I use Macs at work all the time, in fact i am on a Mac right now. And all i want in an operating system at the moment, is the functionality of a Mac, but the compatability of Windows. so basically i want to be able to play all my games on a Mac without having to rebuy them(some of which arent available)... If only that were so...[>:]

And yes i am aware of Paralles, and Boot camp. But i don't want those i want one operating system for all.

When you have a cake, you have to share it. You can't eat the cake yourself.

I heard there is something like an Intell I-book which runs windows and the mac opperating systems. That sounds kind of unlikely though.

No it is likely. there are a few variations of them, Parallel's being one and Boot camp being another, there is some other type as well but those are the most popular ones that are out...
