WTF!! breaker bar!

RE: WTF!! breaker bar!
Impacts aren't always better than a breaker. At my high school autoshop we had a good compressor and good impact guns but there were still bolts that we could only take out with the breaker bar. I think there is something with the way the force is applied through the breaker bar that applies more force to the bolts.

so agreed but I have broken two breaker bars and yet no broken sockets. at my school we have like a 160 psi compressor that when we use the impact it works pretty good but nothing beats a breaker bar plus a 6 foot cheater bar.

Impacts don't apply force constantly... nor that much twisting force. They use "impact" to loosen the nut/bolt as they are applying a twisting motion to turn the bolt. This is good for getting stuck bolts loose, and it's good for some stubborn ones... when you need some serious pressure... you use a breaker bar... when you need bolt-breaking pressure... use a cheater bar (I usually use the handle of my jack)
BTW - a little known fact... when you're working on your car with a wrench... instead of applying TONS of white knuckle force.... set up your own impact wrench... hold the wrench with one hand, twisting it in the way you want it to go... then hit your hand (in the direction you're pushing)... it'll usually work better than constant pressure because it adds that pressure in one or two blows... and "breaks" it loose.

RE: WTF!! breaker bar!
ive broken way too many breaker bars. solution, old floor jack handle with a 3/4-1/2" adapter tigged on. i love my impact guns to death but as stated, some things are just better left to a good rbeaker bar.
