MIT is one of the best engineering schools in the country, but UT, A&M and Michigan ain't so bad either...and they give merit based scholarships (MIT does only need based i believe)

Also, while MIT is a great school, it is very difficult to become a Professional Engineer after graduating, as most of their engineering programs are not accreditted
if you're interested in engineering, I'd reccommend RPI (Rensselear Polytechnic in Troy, NY) as well as WPI (Worcester Polytechnic in Worcester, MA, my Alma Mater, also, where you won't have to take English classes)
