Default xbox360 anyone?

Seeing as how Microsoft tech. help is full of barely speaking English Indians, and no one on their forums will help, maybe someone here can help me out. I got a 360 for christmas and spent about a week happily playing forza and oblivion. After a week or so I got XBL gold and Rosewill switch. My pc and 360 plug in to the switch, the switch goes to my router, and that goes to internet. SO! Here's the first problem - It took me several hours to sign up for XBL. I looked in to it and as I thought they had an increase in users and were doing updates. Sure, poor planning on Microsoft's part but I can live. XBL worked well for a few days then I tried to get my 360 on my network - problem 2. After trying litterally everything and anything it still won't see my 360 and vice versa. Then problem 3 - now my xbox freezes when I do ANYTHING regarding media or xbl. It won't sign in to profiles (unless I"m out of a game) but when I start a game it will log out again and freeze. Someone help me out before I'm tempted to give Microsoft back their paper weight and get a PS3. I have yet to talk to tech. help, mind you, I'm calling them Monday, but I doubt that will yield anything other than how to get a money back return.

Its hard to say what is exactly causing the issue.

First off what kind of router do you have and waht kind of switch?

second have you tried the xbox directly to the rouer and or directly to the modem?

Is your PC having any issues?

Does your router support upnp?

Have you tried opening the needed ports on the router to the xbox's internal IP address?

Thats all i can think of right now

I have a Lynksis WRT45G router and a Rosewill RC-405 Switch. Both support UPnP. I can see my sisters laptop through our network, so I know at least the router is working. I've tried hooking the Xbox directly to the router and it's not different. My PC has no issues, and both can connect to the internet. I've tried opening the needed ports for UPnP and windows media player on my Lynksis firewall but that shouldn't matter because they connect before they get to the firewall anyways. Still, nothing

I didnt read the full thing I got bored after awhile. But, as you said, XBL is having updates or something I dont know wtf they are doing. I heard a hacker placed a bug in xbl last time it was like this and I just signed on 15 minutes ago and it was like it again after about a week break of it being...alright, not %100. So im kind of leaning on the fact that it is a hacker issue. My Media, XBL marketplace, and main screen, wont load either. It has that stupid xbox symbol with the little rings going around it like its loading. If you go to this thing and your xbox freezes it could be because it doesnt know what the hell its doing. Mine froze a bunch of times before. And your right, the xbox live tech are a bunch of foreign morons who told my friend "if you are experiencing issues sign out and sign back in within the hour." Gee, thanks I would of never known to try that!

Bottomline, wait it out until the fix the POS until you start throwin stuff out the window.

Heh, everything you said is exactly how I"m doing. I wouldn't worry much if it was just XBL being slow but the whole console is freezing. I haven't been able to load a game since the problems started.

You could play with yourself....or you could take it back and say my junks messed up. OR you can do what I did, and send it back into microsoft and they will fix it for free. They will send you a box and everything so you can put your Xbox in it. I think you only need to pay for shipping. I got the ring of death and they fixed that puppyand sent it back to me. Havnt really had problems since. Maybe you just have a dysfunctional xbox. There were a lot of them.

I would just bring it back to the store for a refund but me mum got it in November as a gift. Luckily though Microsoft will fix it for free, but it's still just annoying =/ And I'm still contemplating a PS3

What game are you trying to play? The freezing is caused by XBL; me and Greddy_Civic have been having the same problems. The reason is because of the sudden influx of members. Their site says that XBL nearly doubled in size over the course of a week. Once they get a few more servers we should begin to see some improvement. Also, par of the problem may be your router. XBL doesnt like routers very much, you need to set up some ports for port triggering. Set port triggering for TCP/UDP port 88 on ANY server, that way your router allows this traffic unrestricted. Also, set TCP/UDP port 3704 to any server. Check for any tabs on your router that say "Universal Plug and Play," or UPnP, and be sure to turn it on. I would also recommend plugging the 360 directly into the router, if you can. Most routers have more than one LAN port, and this will make port triggering much more effective. Daisy-chaining routing equipment is not generally recommended, lol.

I tried playing COD:4 and Crackdown, both froze while trying to log in. At this point, it's definitely not an XBL problem, as the console freezes. Can you be more specific with the ports you're talking about? All UPnP is enabled on my router. And I have tried plugging in the xbox to the router directly, no difference.

Have you set up port forwarding on your router? For Linksys, log into the router (192.168.1.1 in the browser usually). CLick DHCP, then clickDHCP client tables and find yourXBOX 360 on the list and note its IP.Click forwarding. Enter the ports you need to be forwarded and enter the 360's IP. You might want to assign the 360 a static IP b/c with DHCP the 360's IP will change and forwarding will not work correctly. I'm not sure which ports you will need to forward as I do not have a 360 (I have PS3 and it was plug and play for the most part). When you do port forwarding you need to set an IP to forward the packets to. When XBL sends you a packet on XXXX port, it will get sent to the IP you have configured.
