Default 00 EX AT O2 Sensor Prob??? (update 04/30/08)

Ok I bought 2 new Bosch universal oxygen sensors part number 15734 for $50. It was a steal soI did not pass it up. They were brand new still in the box. I started just by replacing the Primary O2 but I used the connectors it came with first. The wires that the Bosch sensor has are Black, Black, Blue, White. The wires on the OEM sensor are Black, Black, Green, White. I connected the white one to the green one and the blue one to the white one. Evrything seemed good till I drove off and theCEL came on. My thought was I wired them backwards, so I brought it back to the shop, but this time I soldered the connectors together, white to white, blue to green, reset the codes and once again I get the CEL. I borrowed my buddies code reader and it gave me P0131 which is Low Voltage on the Primary O2. So i dig up the schematic and I guess I had it wired right the first time so once again took it out and re-soldered them white to green, blue to white. This time the light stayed off for about an hour andI was like GREATI fixed it... Nope I was wrong, as Im driving up to my drive way the stupid CEL comes on AGAIN!!!

My questions are:
1. Can wiring the sensor backwards damage it?
2. What else can P0131 have an affect on?
3. Can anything get damaged ifI just ignore the light?

Thanks in advance.

I hate to say this my friend but, by ever touching the 02 sensors, you get yourself in a whole mess of trouble...
save yourself the hassle and just get a new sensor WITH the plug this time

I dont understand how that is a problem. I thought the sensor itself is inside so you cant physically touch it. They are not like light bulbs where if you touch the glass side the thing can explode. I would think if you could not touch it there would be warnings on the package. If Im wrong let me know, but I really do not want to spend $175 on a O2 sensor just because it already comes with a plug, makes no sense to me.

I really am not sure why, but they just love to break when you touch them.
It's not that expensive though, if you go to NAPA, they will have the primary one for 84 dollars (including tax) and the secondary for 110

I know this because I just bought two about a week ago lol
I've bought several sensors without the plugs etc, they died within 41 miles
I've driven 400 with the plug ones no problem

Trust me dude I know your issue, I was wondering wtf was going on with mine for TWO YEARS before I just bought plug ones and problem solved

Applying voltage to the output wire (almost always the white wire) while the sensor is hot will damage it.

Ok before I try the second O2 sensor I have, what is the correct wiring for a D16Y8 engine? The OEM sensor was Black, Black, Green, White, Which one is the signal and which one is signal ground?

OK I checked the local NAPA shop and they do have one for $80. But I want to try the second one I have just in case I can get it to work right. What is the right color combination for the OEM Sensor? Which wire is the signal and which one is the signal ground on a 2000 Civic EX Automatic?

Ok so I bought the sensor that came with a connector from NAPA and installed it, cleared the code with frinds code reader and now I dont get a code at all! That solves that problem.... BUT now when I start the car and just go with out letting it warm up, the first time I reach around 20-40 mph it will hesitate bad for like 4 seconds and then it feels like its going to stall then it goes just fine. It wont do it again until the next time I start the car again. I have not got a CEL so im confused on what it could be. Help Please!!!

did that a year and a half ago, replaced spark plugs & wires, Cap & rotor, fuel filter. 2 weeks ago I cleaned out the throttle body using T.B. cleaner, and the Intake Filter. I do know I need to get all the belts replaced along with the water pump. Just trying to find someone that can do it for a good price and waiting for that free government check to come to do it already. Anything else I should check?
