Question 02 Civic EX Automatic Shift Problem...help!

Any advice for a Honda noob would be appreciated! I am working on my son's 2002 Honda Civic EX. The transmission is shifting too late and hard unless he lets off the throttle to wait for it to shift. It does this in both the 1 - 2 and 2 - 3 shifts. I have verified, I believe, that the TPS is working properly....thinking that it probably fed into the shift point commanding. It is NOT throwing any CELs and has no other obvious problems with the transmission or otherwise. The transmission doesn't slip at all...just doesn't shift soon enough. Anyone have any idea what I can look for to solve this problem? Thanks, Alan.

When was the last time the tranny fluid was replaced?

Question

I don't remember for sure, but it has been serviced by Honda at the regular service intervals. It has 125K on it now. How would a fluid change effect the shift point? I characterize it as a control problem of some sort...
