Default 02 EX Transmission problem

Bought my daughter an 02 Civic with 146k miles. I drove it about 250 miles myself with no noticable issues. Added a pint of NAPA transmission stop leak/conditioner. A week later the transmission is slipping so bad she couldn't move it. Next morning I was able to drive it to the shop, although it was slipping. Mechanic says tran needs replacing.

Would the stop leak have caused this? Should I try changing the fluid? Or is it truly trashed?

Thanks,
Kevin

Another cautionary tale not to put anything in there except Honda ATF. Maybe the filter just became clogged, but once you keep driving while it is slipping, the clutches will burn up. I'm pretty sure that the transmission has to be removed from the car and opened to change the filter.

Yep, new dumbass Honda owner! Expensive lesson I guess.
Mechanic is telling me buy a rebuild with install for $3000. Or used and take the chance of it going out in the near future too.

Any suggestions? Do I dare try to just clean or replace the filter?

Thanks,
Kevin
