OK, this was my first post to this web site and on the balance I got only 2 out of 19 replies that were of any use at all. That’s sort of disappointing results. I was hoping for more useful replies. I would like to thank everyone for their comments. However, I would like to point out that I did not ask anyone for their opinion on the virtues of wearing a seat belt.

Yes, I am aware of laws that, in the name of safety, effectively limit my freedom of choice to handle my own personal safety in the manner I see fit.

Yes, I am quite aware of the consequences of not wearing a seat belt and I am also aware that most of our forefathers drove to a ripe old age without the benefit of being forced to use a safety belt.

Some of you do me a great disservice by assuming that you know what is best for me and that I am not intelligent enough to make that choice for myself. If I choose poorly then it is I who face the consequences not you. The choice as to weather I ware a seat belt or not should be mine not yours to legislate. I am intelligent enough to know that when I get in the car to move it around the house (speeds less than 5 mph) I don’t need the seatbelt. This is something I do about 5 times a week. There are other similar situations that the seatbelt is in anyone’s opinion not necessary or useful.

Again, I thank the 2 replies that were thoughtful and respectful enough to offer constructive solutions.

We are only trying to help. But thank you for slapping some of us in the face over FREE advice. Especially since most of us dont know jack squat about the 06 civic yet because we dont own one. That basically gives us zero experience on the the car. We were only trying to give you logical answers at best. I dont know if I was one of the two but I gave you my best answer to the question since I had somewhat experience to the topic.

yea i agree with djhonso. if he wanted your opinion i think he would have asked hey what do u people think about not using seatbelts?

to bad he didn't because then the two page thread on this almost every post fits with that question. cause i know when i ask a q i want an answer not an opinion of what u think or like.

but i would look at your seat belt and then go to the yard and find one similair because they are universal. im not exactly sure on the 06 cause i have yet to see them but it doesn't make sense to me that honda would make a new cast for something so simple and i am sure that every seat belt would have to pass some kind of government inspection so it makes sense to me that they would just use the same one so they don't have to do all that and spend more money. i could be wrong though have been before and sure will again

Wow. I guess I should apologize then for saying, please wear a seatbelt and dont die. And when we see on the news a smashed up 06 Civic and the driver wasnt wearing a seatbelt we'll kno that you had your freedom. No one plans accidents..thats why we try to keep ourselves as safe as possible incase of one. And about our forefathers not wearing seatbelts..even the oldest ppl in my family wear them and thats pretty damn old. If your reffering to back in the day with like the Ford model T or something...those things went like 20mph. But like I said..enjoy your freedom..sorry you werent satisfied with our forum because ppl advised you to be safe.

Just go to a junk yard and get the buckle part of a belt and plug it into the clip thing when you don't want to click the real thing. Wouldn't advise it, but there ya go.

djohnso I just signed up this is my first post. I joined so I could ask the same question. I agree with you totally!! I am 56 and don't need an annoying buzzer to tell me what is best for me. Rush Limbaugh had a good piece about the Nanny mentality last week right to the point. I just bought an 07 si sedan, I am having a love/hate relationship with it. It runs and handles fantastic but the seat is too small and no lumbar, I am 6' and 210 lb. I am looking to maybe replace the seat.

If you are riding by yourself, I guess you feel that it is okay to kill yourself. I'll give you that right. Unfortunately, there are probably other people in your car, and other people on the road. If someone without a seatbelt loses control of their car and involves me in their accident, I feel I am justified in being a bit upset. These seatbelt rules are not just for your safety, they are for the rest of us also. If all you are doing is moving the car around the yard, put up with the beeps.

I had an off-road excursion many years ago. The Volvo three-point seatbelt kept me in my seat behind the wheel so that I could safely stop. If I had not been in the seatbelt, it would have been a very costly accident indeed. I feel naked without a three-point belt on. So should you, for all our sakes.

By the way, I do own an '06 Civic LX sedan.
