Default 1992 Honda Civic Manual Transmission Problems Diagnosis

I was on my way home and stopped at a light. When trying to get the car going again
I heard a loud mechanical "pop" and the engine spun but the car wouldn't move. I
pulled it out of the way and tried to get it going - no luck - the tach registers rpm,
the engine runs but won't engage the transmission. The clutch plate and flywheel
are less than 3-yrs old. The throw out bearing is the original one. The clutch slave
cylinder is more than 5-years old.

Any suggestions - THANKS MUCH

A clutch can fail in more ways than just a worn out disk. When you engage the clutch can you put it in any gear with the engine running? Also, are you sure it's not a failed axle?
