Default 1999 transmission

The transmission to my 1999 Civic died several days ago, as well as the torque converter (according to my mechanic). They quoted me about $2000-$2300 to fix all of this. Is a Civic with 146k miles worth fixing? How reliable are used transmissions if I were to buy one? I've poured more into fixing this car over the years than I paid for it. But I am also unsure if the price I was quoted is too high. I appreciate any advice from those with much more experience than myself. Thanks

In where I am auto trans cost 250 bucks, 200$ for manual, including installation. These are JDM low milage trans.

Wow, that's a very different price than what I was quoted! I'm wondering if it's worth shopping around then for a different mechanic

Im in Saudi Arabia. Im sure it cost more in where you are, but 2000$ is too much.Try the salvage yard or used-parts stores. Then ask for quotations for installation from shops.

if you're good at inspecting used cars you could get a decent ride for that much on craigslist. however you do risk getting a lemon.
