2001 Civic - Dead or Not
New to the forum and would appreciate some feedback. I had my 2001 Civic in the dealer for service (155,000 miles) , engine light on , noticable engine sputtering. Also had it in 6 months ago for the same thing and was told a cylinder seemed to be misfiring so they moved the coils and changed the plugs and it seemed to be fine. This time they did the same thing and took the extra step of checking compression and the 3rd cylinder had virtually none. They told me the cost of the work would be worth more than the car if they had to replace valves etc...so they didn't go any further and basically told me a replacement engine was the only option , but basically the car is done....thoughts??
If one of four cylinders is showing almost no compression, you would have been feeling tremendous vibration, especially at lower rpm. You would have hard time driving due to no power.
I really do not know the going price of the car or the cost of repair, since I do most of repairs myself.
If the car is drivable, I would take it to and get second opinion from reputable repair shop other than Honda dealer.
