Default 2001 Civic Rear noise. Possible Fuel Tank Issue?

Hello. I have a 2001 4 door LX civic. When coming to a stop I hear what first sounding like a grinding noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The harder I stop, the more evident the noise is. Thinking it was my drums, I replaced the pads and cleaned off all components. The noise never went away. Upon further inspection i realized the noise sounds more like sloshing than grinding. I was thinking it could be the gas in the tank? so I filled up the tank (I was on a quarter tank) and the sounds still exists. Could it be just as simple as the gas in the tank?

Thanks so much in advance

Well if it's definitely a sloshing noise then I would definitely say it's just the gas in the gas tank.

If you thought it was the drums then why would you replace pads? Drums don't have pads, they have shoes, so if you replaced pads that leads me to believe you replaced the front brake pads?

I think it's probably something to do with the brakes... you shouldn't be able to hear your gas sloshing.

hah yeah, the shoes. sorry. I replaced the shoes. I did take a look at the front pads however they had been replaced recently so I just cleaned the components. The noise is definietely coming from the rear of the car though. and only when I am breaking.

Not at all. I was actually pleasantly suprised at how well everything has kept up. I didn't need to even change the shoes, I just went ahead and did it since I already had everything taken apart. Shook the heck out of the two wheels too, nothing seemed loose or worn.

Exactly. Thats why I'm hoping it's just the gas tank. I read somewhere that Hondas have noisy tanks.. But how noisy could one be?

Thanks so much for you help though!

I spoke with a mechanic who took a quick look at the front brakes. He said they were "crystalized". I asked if I should change them out and he said no. That they were in great condition and just may cause a bit of noise. Could this be the cause of it?

Yeah its REALLY hot here too, he said it was from the overheating of the pads. The glaze over.
