Default 2001 civic transmission problem

Hi All,
Need your help pls.
I have 2001 civic w/ 129k and transmission just die on me yesterday and took to my mechanic
and he recommends to "rebuilt" for $1,900 by Leemyles (sub.), if not other alternative is to purchase
"refurblished" from honda dealer for $1,600 which my mechanic things it's too cheap, so he thinks
either (rebuilt from Leemyles) or (refurblished from Honda) would be the same... Your advice would
be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

My delema is that Honda has offered me $3,000 to install (refurblish transmission), when I called. but same dealer is selling to my mechanic for $1,600 because he has given my vin#..and he'll only charge $400 to install,.. do you
think I'm getting same (refurblished transmission)? is there several types that varies on price and quality?
Thanks for your reply and I would greatly apprecaige your comment.

John

Is it automatic? If manual I'd just have a used one put in. You could try that with automatic as well.

so what youre saying is that honda quoted you 3000 for a referb auto trans and your tech is ordering a referb from the same dealer your were originally quoted from? if this is true and correct youll end up saving a grand if you left him install it. what are the differnces in warrenty between honda tech and local tech?

Honda tech has give us for the refurb 36k warrently so did local tech with their (rebuilt), so my mechanic has
purchased from honda refurb and is now installing. I wanted to know, if there were several "quality" types of
refurb from Honda since we got so many different quote, so I had some dought why it was so low... but as per your comment I might be getting great deal~ Thanks for your comment and hope all goes well. I'm picking up
by tomorrow. Thanks.

yea, i dont think that they have different "quality" types as you put it, i highly doubt they would sell referb trannys that are rebuilt half-assed and then ones are that are rebuilt properly. but it sounds like you got er figured out. good luck
