Default 2002 Civic A/C not kicking on

Hello all,
Recently my a/c has stopped recently. Here are the things I have checked and tried.
I checked the 134a. Did a recharge of it.
I checked the fuses. I tested the relays for continuity, all good.

What I have noticed is that when I do turn on the A/C, that it does not engage at all.
That makes me think there could be short somewhere.

Is there any recommendations as to what else i could possibly check?

Thanks
NC

1) Before you added refrigerant to the system, did you know that it was actually low? If not, your system may be overfilled.

2) You say that the compressor does not engage. Does the condenser fan also not run when you push the A/C button?

3) Try to retrieve a trouble code:

When you press the button with the interior fan on and the engine idling, these 3 things should happen.

1 Condenser fan starts
2 Engine idle speed increases
3 Compressor engages

If you don't even get 1, could be to control panel, run the control panel self-test.

If you get 1 but not 2, check the interlock switches. There is a pressure switch on the receiver drier and a temperature switch on the compressor. (Some models have the temperature switch in series with the clutch coil, on others it is a seperate low-level circuit. This is for the low-level type.) Unplug each switch and check it for continuity. If the pressure switch is open, most likely reason is there is no refrigerant. Maybe you recharged it but it could have all leaked out again.

If you get 1 and 2 but not 3 check for voltage on the compressor clutch wire. If you have voltage the clutch coil could be bad or gap too wide. Or if it is the type with the temperature switch in series with the clutch, a bad temperature switch. Unplug the clutch and measure resistance thru it to ground, should be 3 to 4 ohms. If you have that with the ENGINE OFF, jumper the clutch wire (still unplugged from the car) to battery (+) and see if the clutch snaps in. If not, press on the clutch plate (ENGINE OFF) and see if that gets it to snap in. If pressing on the plate worked, the gap is too wide and you need to adjust it. This is done by taking the center shaft nut off and removing the clutch plate. Then remove some of the shim washers from the shaft and put the plate back on. Gap should not be wider than 0.020 inches (0.5 mm).

Do not jumper the compressor to the battery with the engine on. There is no protection against over or under pressure then and serious damage can occur.
