Default 2002 honda civic won't start. Solved, but not sure how.

My 2002 honda civic (with 105k miles) would crank-but-not-start earlier today. Thinking it's a battery issue, I called road-side assistance. The battery jumpstart didn't help as well, but the service person said it's likely dirt in fuel line, and then he did something inside the engine area and it worked this time (some smoke came out of the exhaust).

He wouldn't tell me however what he had fixed. Any suggestions on how he might have fixed it, so I can do it again if needed. Also, is a particular service/inspection warranted right now.

Thanks in advance for help.
