2003 civic Alternator/ battery issues
Hello there,
I have a 2003 civic that's just giving me some grief lately. I had all the belts (timing and serpentine belts) replaced by a mechanic few months ago. Recently the belts started squeeling a lot when started and the noise kept getting sharper and sharper with time. I was going to take it to another mechanic friend to tighten the belts over the weekend; however, while I was driving the car today, the battery sign came on. After that the belts stopped squeeling as well. I drove the car for an hour or so before barely making it home after odometer, and the gauges went dead as well. I'm not sure if the problem is related to the belts that were probably not replaced properly or if it's a totally unrelated problem due to a dead alternator.
Can someone please advise and help me fix this problem on my own, as I"m not able to afford a mechanic to fix it now.
Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the replies. The belt is still intact and rotating...guess alternator is gone bad? If that's the case, wonderig how that would have happened and if the alternator is changed, would the belt that was changed cause the alternator to go bad again?
