Default 2005 Honda Civic coupe dx Brake issue

I recently replaced the front brake pads and rotors on my Honda Civic, however after reassembling everything and testing my brakes the system appears as though it is permently engaged.

I fully retracted the caliper pistons on each side (it was the only way to get the new parts to fit), and getting the caliper over the pads/rotor on each side was a tight fit.

I did not bleed any brake fluid during this procedure, and had to hammer mildly to get the snug-fitting caliper over the pads/rotor.

I am hesitant to drive it at all in this condition, and any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you may have the wrong parts. When the pistons really are fully retracted there should be space for new pads and rotor to fit. Did you take out all the shims (if any) that were with the old pads?
