Default 2007 Honda Civic Coupe EX Questions

Alrite guys so i bought this car brand new off the lot last friday. Car had no km's on it, 0.5 i believe haha just rolling it off the truck.I have a few quick questions, i know they might sound stupid but it's my first new car and honda at that so im not sure on what should be happening. I also got the rust protection that honda offers done on the car.

1) First off ive noticed that theres a burning smell everytime i park and get out, and i believe it's just the brakes but im not postitive, anything else that it could be?

2) Secondly when i got the rust protection done, it seems like everytime i get outta the car when it's warm i can smell a Puddy smell, like it seems it comes from the back of the car from the exaust? any suggestions?

3)Thirdly it's an automatic and im just wondering about the D3 on the gear selection. Theres 1,2,D3 and D. I know D is what is recommended but what is the purpose of D3? is it just third gear or is it for in town driving?

Geoff

You have the 5 speed automatic.
1 is first.
2 is second
D3 is third. (the car might use overdrive at this position also)
D is forth and will allow overdrive to engage.

The transmission is basically a 4 speed with overdrive, or considered a 5 speed.

For most driving, use D. D3 is for preventing the transmission into going beyond the 3rd gear. This is useful for steep downgrades on mountains or steep uphill at moderate to high speeds. For normal driving, you don't need to put the shifter in this position. Your owner's manual should discuss this gear selection too.

yea the lower gears are made for towing, going down steep hills and not burning up your brakes.
And yea, the burning smell is normal, I drive new hondas all day long and they always smell like that

the burning smell is just oil burning off parts from the mechanic when it was pdi'd. perfectly normal. You should have seen my wrx the day I got it back from major engine and body work. I went straight from the dealership to my girl's house and it was smoking pretty good! Went away in a few hours.

The burning smell will last only a couple hundread miles, it's from all of the exhaust piping which has a light coat of oils from the factory.

Question for you...any issues with your A/C not cooling properly in temps of 90F? Mine is four days old and seems to be the only problem I am having, the A/C just cannot cool the car well in very hot weather. You?
