Default 2008 LX, acceleration questions

I've had my 4-door Civic for about a year and a half now.
Basically I've noticed that acceleration pretty much sucks on it.
I'm not a speedster but I still like to accelerate fast.

More or less, when I press the gas, I can jump of the line not bad, but if I "floor" it, I've noticed that it doesn't seem to accelerate any faster than if I was pressing it only halfway down. The RPM's seem to climb at a steady rate like there is some sort of inhibitor as to how fast the car can accelerate.

I'm not too knowledgeable about cars. I've followed things slightly because of a couple friends, but never really got into it.

Basically, I'm wondering if this behavior is normal or if there is a way to fix it; like maybe some "cheap" solutions, short of getting a vTec (lol), that can improve acceleration rates. I don't even get enough torque(?) to spin out, and I know there are plenty of stock cars that can do that, so why not mine.
