91 DX Racing Idle
Hi All
After 2 days of tweaking and searching the archives I am in need of some help.
Here's the deal:
1991 Honda DX all stock, auto DPFI 1.5
Just finished replacing the following parts:
1. Distributor, rotor and cap
2. Spark plugs
3. Fuel Filter
4. Valve cover gasket
5. PCV Valve
I had to replace the distributor because it would lose all power while driving. The first new distributor stranded me on the side of the highway. Found it was faulty, when I put the second one on, the idle started racing, very consistent I would guess at about 2500 RPM. I brought it home and took it all apart and did it again, no change....
What am I doing wrong here? Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the ignition timing after replacing the distributor cap and rotor? Also check whether you accidentally disconnected a vacuum hose. Is the PCV valve hose leaking?

Thanks for the reply. No I have not checked the timing - need to get my timing gun back. I have loosened the distributor and moved it with no change to the idle. I also checked the PVC hose and it's in good shape. Any other thoughts? Thanks again for your help.
In addition to my other suggestions, you could also check and clean the EACV on the throttle body, as well as adjust the idle speed. The resistance across the two terminals of the disconnected EACV should measure 8-15 Ohms.

Someone may have turned up the idle screw to keep it running with the old faulty distributor. You could try turning it down, but you really should set the timing first before making any other adjustments or driving the car.
