Default 91' hatch- A/C blows fuse

My a/c had been running great & then it just started popping the fuse instantly! I've checked resistance on the compressor & clutch. I've checked resistance from comp. back to the relay. Checked from relay back to the fuse box(under the hood). Everything reads out OK. What next? Something as simple as the a/c button on the dash? It's hot in Florida & would love to have my a/c back.

Likely either the compressor or the condenser fan (the smaller one on the left side) is shorted. Unplug them and see if the fuse holds.

I do have power up to the compressor. The fuse does not blow when unplugged w/car running & a/c on. Using an Ohm meter, if the compressor reads out OK...can the compressor still be shorting out? Car electrical is not my calling.

Unplug the compressor. Measure resistance from the wire on the compressor to ground. It should be 3 to 4 ohms. Also make sure your meter reads zero when you put both probes on ground.

Meter does zero out when probes are connected. Also, the compressor does zero out when I check compressor wire and to ground.

Compressor is shorted then. Probably the clutch coil itself is shorted, but check for frayed wires on the top of the compressor.

Coil can be replaced without changing the whole compressor or needing to recharge the refrigerant.
