93 Civic Drivers door just won't lock... (won't push down)

The older honda civics have a "dummy lock" system where to lock the driver side door manually you have to:
1. Pull the inside lever open as you lock the door.
2. Pull the outside lever open as you lock the door.
OR
3. Close the door, insert your key and lock it. (I did this for a long time before I talked to a Honda Tech)[:'(]
Beside number 3, can anyone figure out how this helps a person not lock their keys in the car? Because that is what the "dummy lock" systems were supposed to prevent. Even old toyotas and nissans have this feature in one form or another.

Yeah, for the first while I guess. But once you become a pro at it, it becomes an automated thing you don't think about anymore. So yeah, I still lock myself out once in a blue moon. [&:]
