I am loosing water from radiator. Oil residue in coolant overflow tank but no water in oil. Pulled valve cover water residue on top of cylinder head. Pulled head, expected to find blown head gasket but didn't see any breaks. Engine has 272000 miles. Ran great even with water loss until a week ago. Stalled but would restart but no power no idle. Could this be from cracked head, seems like water would end up in pan but not seeing it. Can't figure out how water is getting on top of head.

If you have water in the cam area, it's in the oil pan too. Whatever is there (hopefully just oil) returns to the oil pan by running down through the holes in the front (exhaust side) corners of the head. These passages lead directly to the oil pan.
