hi I have a 94 civic i just bought. when i got it it was sputting when you give it gas at the take off and sometimes died at idle i took it to the garage they put a new temp sensor in and fixed it as it was running rich but it still has a miss i have repalced the plugs and air filter and put a profurmance muffler on it you can hear it pop kind of like a backfire almost when you give it gas

does anyone know if this could be cause be a clogged catalytic converter ?

also when you turn off the car you can hear the exhast ticking under the car up towards the front of it

its not a back fire but more like a putter when you give it gas if you let up on the gas its fine or after the rpms pick ups its fine

also i only get like 275 km on a full tank of gas

 

The ticking exhaust is fairly common and clogged cat wouldn't cause a backfire. I would look at the ignition system and be sure your timing is correct.

My civic does this on the change up from 1st to 2nd and it doesnt seem to matter how fast/slowly and at what revs U change. At the mo Im getting round it by slipping the clutch on every change up. [:'(]
At first I put it down to my powerflow exhaust, but the problem has only become really apparent in last 6 months, around 4 months after exhaust was fitted. NE IDas guys? Could it B the same prob as 'hennebury' is having?
