car started dying while driving then hard to start have to hold ignition switch on to run changed ignition switch that didnt fix need help please

 

faulty coil wire maybe? or something wrong with your fuel pump maybe? week ignition relay maybe? whens the last time the distributor cap and roter where changed? im not a mechanic or claim to be one just throwing out some ideas and maybe some senior members could jump in and help ya..

 

fuel filter changed not long ago ill try some of those first my son thinks the steering colum would that be possible thanks

Are you saying the engine only runs when the key is held in ON(III)/START?

If you tun the key to ON(II), do you hear the low humming sound of the fuel pump priming for 2 seconds in the gas tank? And does the CEL turn on and then off after 2 seconds?

 

sorry one thing i forgot is when turn key on dash lights dont come will stay running only if you keep key turned all the way changed ignition switch didnt fix also put new map sensor is 5speed dont know what cel is

 

The "new" ignition switch is almost surely bad.

 

Just curious RonJ... how much do them usually run new?

 

mine was 22.00 light has been on since i bought it speedometer doesnt work has over 200,000 miles

 

I think member 94hatch found a vendor on e-Bay selling electrical switches for 5th Gen Civics for either $25 or $50. I can't remember which.
